Bio: Dove, 34, was a pioneering nurse at Provident Hospital, the first Black-owned and operated hospital in America. She wore a modest silk gown adorned with intricate hand-sewn floral embroidery. Chicago provided opportunities for African Americans, particularly in healthcare and business, yet segregation and inequality remained persistent challenges.
